Air India Express Offers Free Date Change And Cancellation For Nepal Flights

Kathmandu-bound passengers of Air India Express have been granted flexibility to reschedule or cancel their tickets free of charge until 17 September, as the airline responds to the ongoing uncertainty in Nepal. The carrier has assured travellers that while operations remain stable beyond this period, proactive measures are being taken to prioritise safety and minimise inconvenience.

In its latest advisory, Air India Express announced that all bookings to and from Nepal until mid-September can either be shifted to later dates without penalty or cancelled entirely with a full refund. The waiver includes both change fees and fare differences, providing maximum relief to passengers who may have been concerned about disruptions. Officials confirmed that this support is part of the airline’s customer-first approach, designed to mitigate the stress associated with sudden travel uncertainties. Passengers can conveniently avail these services through the carrier’s digital platforms, including its AI-powered chat assistant, which is available on the website, WhatsApp, and the mobile application.

While Air India Express continues to operate its scheduled services, its parent airline Air India had to cancel select flights earlier this week due to Kathmandu airport’s closure. Officials emphasised that safety of passengers and crew remains the highest priority and that operational decisions are being monitored closely in coordination with Nepalese authorities. Industry analysts note that the gesture of offering fee-free flexibility is not just a goodwill measure but also a business strategy to maintain passenger trust during volatile circumstances. In an era when travel disruptions can quickly damage brand reputation, such policies provide reassurance to customers while underscoring the airline’s adaptability.

Passenger groups have welcomed the move, saying it gives them much-needed breathing space in planning or deferring trips without financial penalty. The option of a full refund through the original mode of payment has been particularly appreciated by travellers, some of whom have had to abandon plans entirely. Beyond its immediate operational implications, the development highlights how airlines are increasingly expected to be responsive and transparent in crisis situations. With India and Nepal sharing strong cultural and economic ties, uninterrupted and safe air connectivity remains essential. Officials said the carrier is committed to ensuring smooth restoration of services once conditions normalise, while continuing to prioritise passenger well-being.
