The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced an 18-hour water cut for several areas in Navi Mumbai and parts of Panvel this weekend. The water supply will be temporarily suspended from 10:00 a.m, on July 18 to 4:00 a.m. on July 19 to facilitate essential repairs to the 1700 mm diameter Morbe main water pipeline, which has been facing recurring issues near Akshar Building on Palm Beach Road, Nerul.
This critical infrastructure work follows the installation of a new pipeline at the site. The connection work to link the new pipeline with the existing network will require a suspension of water supply, affecting a large portion of Navi Mumbai, including key areas such as Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli, and Airoli, all of which fall within the NMMC’s jurisdiction. Additionally, some areas under the CIDCO administration, including Kharghar and Kamothe, will also face disruptions. During this period, residents are advised to prepare for a complete suspension of the water supply. There will also be no water available during the evening of July 18, nor will there be any morning supply on July 19. Furthermore, some areas may experience low water pressure or limited supply in the evening hours of July 19, as the pipeline system is gradually restored to full capacity.
These disruptions, while temporary, are essential to ensuring the longevity and reliability of the water supply in the region. According to NMMC officials, the repair work is part of the ongoing effort to address the frequent leakages that have plagued the Morbe pipeline in recent months. The new pipeline installation is expected to significantly reduce the number of water service interruptions and improve the overall efficiency of the water supply network in Navi Mumbai. Despite the inconvenience, residents have been urged to use water judiciously during the period of suspension. Authorities have requested cooperation from the public to minimize the impact of the disruption, as the repair work is vital for the long-term sustainability of the city’s water infrastructure. The NMMC has also reassured citizens that steps will be taken to ensure that the job is completed efficiently and without further delays.
For those residing in the affected areas, the water cut is expected to cause temporary inconvenience. However, experts emphasise the importance of such maintenance work, which helps prevent more significant issues in the future, such as leaks and supply interruptions that could impact public health and urban development. As water cuts become a common occurrence in rapidly growing cities like Navi Mumbai, authorities are working to implement more sustainable and long-term solutions to address the city’s increasing water demand. The current repair work represents a crucial step in ensuring that infrastructure keeps up with the needs of the growing population, while also promoting water conservation and efficient resource management.
With the water supply expected to be restored by the morning of July 19, residents are advised to plan their water usage carefully in advance and store enough water for essential needs during the disruption.
