Delhi To Establish Indias First E Waste Recycling Park In Holambi Kalan
Delhi government has announced ambitious plans to establish the country’s first e-waste eco park in Holambi Kalan, a landmark initiative set to redefine electronic waste management in India. The project, estimated at Rs 150 crore, will be developed by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), with its global tender now in the final stages of preparation. The Environment and Industries Minister emphasized that this facility is not merely about building infrastructure but about fostering trust in green technology, aiming to set a benchmark in clean technology and sustainable industrial practices for urban environmental management.
To ensure adherence to global standards, the Delhi Government has commissioned a third-party consultancy to conduct a detailed feasibility study, drawing insights from successful e-waste recycling models in countries like Norway and Hong Kong. These findings will inform the technical scope and finalize the Request for Qualification-cum-Request for Proposal (RFQ-cum-RFP) document for international bidders. The net-zero pollution-free park, spanning 11.4 acres, will be equipped to process over 51,000 metric tonnes of e-waste annually. It will feature scientific dismantling and segregation systems, rare earth and precious metal recovery units, and real-time pollution control infrastructure, while meeting key global benchmarks including ISO 9000 and CENELEC standards.
The facility is also designed to integrate informal e-waste workers into the formal recycling chain through comprehensive training and skill-building programs, fostering a more equitable and organized sector. This initiative is expected to generate over Rs 350 crore in economic output and create thousands of green jobs, providing substantial environmental and economic benefits to the city. The DSIIDC will soon launch the global tender, inviting the world’s leading green technology companies to participate, mandating international best practices in design, pollution control, aesthetics, and worker safety.
This pioneering initiative aligns with the “Viksit Delhi” mission led by the Chief Minister and supports the national vision of a circular economy. It aims to transform India’s growing e-waste burden into an opportunity for innovation and employment. The park will serve as a living example of a future-ready approach for the economy, ecology, and future generations, promoting sustainable and responsible waste management.
