Pune Approves Three New Roads to Boost Pirangut Industrial Connectivity and Ease Traffic
Pune has approved the construction of three major roads aimed at improving access and reducing traffic congestion in the fast-developing Pirangut Industrial Area. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has sanctioned the projects as part of its long-term strategy to connect industrial zones with residential areas and streamline freight movement across the city’s western corridor.
The road links—connecting Urawade to Hinjawadi Phase 3, Nande to Lavale, and Nande to Man—will span a total of over 12 kilometres and come at a combined cost of ₹37.5 crore. Land acquisition for all three routes has already begun, signalling a swift move toward execution. According to PMRDA officials, the 7.10 km road from Urawade to Hinjawadi Phase 3 will ease pressure on existing routes leading to Pune’s prominent IT and business district. The 3.93 km stretch between Nande and Lavale and the 1.5 km road linking Nande to Man village are expected to unlock smoother local transit and boost logistics efficiency for industries operating in the Pirangut zone.
“The western corridor of Pune is expanding at a fast pace. These roadways are critical to long-term sustainable infrastructure development and will support both urban mobility and industrial productivity,” a PMRDA official stated. The approved roads will be constructed with widths ranging from 30 to 45 metres, aligning with PMRDA’s integrated development model. The authority aims to not only address current traffic bottlenecks but also to anticipate future transportation demands with designs that can accommodate public transport and non-motorised traffic.
