JK Tyre Launches India First Green Car Tyre

JK Tyre & Industries has introduced India’s first ISCC Plus certified sustainable passenger car tyre—marking a new era in eco-conscious automotive innovation.

The tyre, named UX Royale Green, is being produced at the company’s Chennai manufacturing facility and uses over 80% sustainable raw materials. This launch is a significant stride in India’s tyre manufacturing landscape. The UX Royale Green leverages cutting-edge material science, combining bio-attributed polymers, recycled rubber powder, recovered carbon black, renewable oils, sustainable steel wire, and recycled polyester. The certification from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus ensures full traceability of these materials and endorses JK Tyre’s alignment with global sustainability standards.

More than a decade in development at JK Tyre’s Global Tech Centre, this innovation underscores the company’s long-standing commitment to environmentally responsible mobility solutions. It represents a bold departure from traditional petroleum-based tyre manufacturing, while maintaining the same benchmarks of quality, performance, and safety the brand is known for. Chairman and Managing Director Dr Raghupati Singhania described the launch as a pivotal moment for the company and the broader automotive ecosystem. “The commencement of sustainable tyre production is a defining step in JK Tyre’s journey toward environmentally responsible innovation,” he stated. “This milestone reflects our commitment to driving responsible mobility anchored in green technology and circular economy principles.”

This initiative is also in tune with the larger climate imperatives and national goals of achieving net-zero emissions. As global supply chains pivot toward low-carbon and responsibly sourced alternatives, JK Tyre’s move is emblematic of how Indian manufacturers are increasingly embracing sustainability as a central tenet of growth. The Chennai facility, which now houses the production of the UX Royale Green, will serve as a testbed for further developments in green tyre technology. The product underwent rigorous internal validation after its initial development in August 2023 and is now set for market rollout. It is expected to appeal to a new generation of environmentally conscious consumers who demand both performance and sustainability from their mobility solutions.

The company’s legacy of innovation and quality in tyre manufacturing is well-documented. As early as 1995, JK Tyre was the first tyre manufacturer globally to earn ISO 9001 certification for all its operations. The current breakthrough strengthens its positioning as a pioneer not just in product excellence but also in ethical manufacturing practices. With urban pollution and environmental degradation placing increasing strain on cities, the introduction of sustainable tyres is more than a commercial product launch—it’s a strategic shift in how mobility is designed for the future. Tyres, often overlooked in the green mobility conversation, are now stepping into the limelight as critical components of a low-impact transport ecosystem.

As cities aim to become more climate-resilient and inclusive, the emergence of such sustainable solutions reflects a broader awakening within industry. The journey to clean mobility isn’t just about electric vehicles—it’s also about rethinking every component of the mobility chain. And with the UX Royale Green, JK Tyre has just shifted the conversation forward.
