BMC Raze Illegal 1500 sq ft Coastal Property in Madh

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demolished a 1500 square foot bungalow in the Madh area of Mumbai. The structure, identified as ‘Preet’, was found to be constructed using a forged map within the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) limits, violating established norms.

The demolition was carried out using heavy machinery, including a Poklen and two JCB machines, under the supervision of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Bhagyashree Kapse and Assistant Commissioner of P North Ward, Kundan Walvi. Adequate police security was deployed to ensure the operation proceeded without incident. This action is part of a broader initiative by the BMC to address unauthorized constructions in coastal areas. The Maharashtra government has previously ordered the demolition of illegal bungalows in the Madh, Marve, and Erangal regions, with officials suspended for their involvement in manipulating CRZ maps to facilitate such constructions.

The BMC’s efforts underscore the importance of adhering to environmental regulations and the commitment to sustainable urban development. By taking stringent action against illegal structures, the civic body aims to preserve the ecological balance of Mumbai’s coastal regions and ensure compliance with CRZ guidelines. This move has been met with support from environmentalists and residents who have long advocated for stricter enforcement of coastal regulations. It serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and accountability in urban planning to safeguard Mumbai’s natural heritage.
