The Odisha State Election Commission has extended the deadline for door-to-door election surveys in Malkangiri and Koraput districts, giving district administrations additional time to complete pre-election formalities for the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections.
According to the Commission’s latest directive, the survey will continue until November 21, 2026, in Malkangiri and until November 14, 2026, in Koraput. The extensions were granted after the respective district administrations formally requested more time to complete the exercise.
The survey is intended to support the preparation of accurate election-related data ahead of the local body polls. The State Election Commission said the additional time was necessary to ensure that the door-to-door process was completed properly and comprehensively in both districts.
The Commission has instructed the Collectors of Malkangiri and Koraput to ensure that the exercise is completed within the revised deadlines. The directions place responsibility on the district administrations to coordinate the remaining fieldwork and prevent further delays in the pre-election process.
The SEC has also emphasised supervision and regular monitoring of the staff conducting the surveys on the ground. The instruction is aimed at maintaining the integrity of the data collected during the exercise, which forms part of the administrative preparations preceding the local elections.
District administrations have been directed to take proactive measures to facilitate the smooth completion of the survey. The directive does not announce any change to the broader election schedule, but it extends the time available for the specific door-to-door exercise in the two districts.
The development highlights the administrative groundwork required before Panchayat and Municipal elections can be conducted. In Malkangiri and Koraput, officials must now complete the survey within separate revised deadlines while maintaining oversight of field staff and the quality of the information collected.
The extended deadlines are November 14 for Koraput and November 21 for Malkangiri. The State Election Commission has asked the district Collectors to ensure that the process concludes within these dates and that no further delays affect the completion of the pre-election formalities.
