Ahmedabad AMC to Allocate 9,001 Affordable Homes in Computerised Draw

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will conduct a computerised draw on November 9 to allocate 9,001 homes and 16 shops to economically weaker households under its slum networking project and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad.

The allocation process will cover 1,176 homes and 16 shops linked to the slum networking project, along with 7,825 homes built under the affordable housing component of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The event will also include the inauguration and foundation-laying of civic projects worth a combined Rs 1,024 crore across Ahmedabad.

Under the slum networking project, 532 remaining homes and 16 shops at Ramapir’s Tekra in Sector 5 will be formally inaugurated and included in the draw. The project has 1,400 homes in total. At the Urban Park in Sector 1, 700 homes have been completed, of which 644 homes will be allocated through the draw. Together, these two locations account for 1,176 homes and 16 shops in the scheduled process.

The larger allocation involves 7,825 homes constructed at 11 locations under the affordable housing component of the urban housing scheme. The locations listed in the report include Nikol, Kotarpur-Naroda, Motera, Shela, Odhav and Sarkhej. The homes have a carpet area of 28 square metres.

The AMC received 97,102 applications for the 7,825 homes, according to the report. The mayor and the chairperson associated with the housing improvement and EWS housing schemes said 7,825 families would be selected for allocation, while 3,912 applicants—equivalent to 50% of the total homes—would be placed on a waiting list.

The housing units are described as having a living room, bedroom, kitchen, toilet, bathroom and wash area. The facilities listed include vehicle parking, vitrified-tile flooring, a Kota stone kitchen platform, earthquake-resistant construction, aluminium-section glass windows and a main door. The report does not provide project-wise possession dates or details of the process applicants must follow after selection.

The programme is also expected to include the inauguration or foundation-laying of other civic works. These include an elevated corridor on the SG Highway between Iskcon and Sanand, a knowledge hub at Jodhpur and an urban health centre at Gota. The combined cost of the listed development works is Rs 1,024 crore.

The draw and related inaugurations are scheduled to take place in the presence of the Union Home Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament from Gandhinagar, according to the report. The computerised draw will determine the beneficiaries for the homes and shops covered by the programme.
