Ahmedabad Bus Station Extortion Case Leads to Three Arrests

Three transgender persons were arrested after allegedly stopping state transport buses and demanding money from passengers at Ahmedabad’s Gita Mandir bus station, according to a complaint filed by an official of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation. Police said the alleged activity disrupted bus movement near the station’s exit gate and included threats against passengers who refused to pay.

The incident was reported on the evening of November 6, when Sikandarbhai Hasanbhai Qureshi, a traffic inspector with the Gita Mandir unit, was on duty. He was informed that a group was allegedly obstructing state transport buses near the exit gate of the bus station.

Qureshi, along with traffic controller Rajkumar Mishra, traffic inspector Girishbhai Patel and assistant traffic inspector Mustaq Ahmed Malek, reached the location to investigate. The staff found three people allegedly stopping state transport buses and creating a disturbance, the report said.

According to the complaint cited by Divya Bhaskar, the accused allegedly boarded buses and asked passengers for money. Those who refused were allegedly threatened with physical assault. The complaint also states that the activity created difficulties for passengers and state transport drivers at the busy terminal.

The Kagadapith police registered a case against Simran De Surbhi De Pavaiya, Ainade Surbhi De Pavaiya and Ruchika De Surbhi De Pavaiya. Police arrested the three and began further investigation, according to the report.

The case places the focus on security and movement management at one of Ahmedabad’s major bus terminals, where buses must enter and leave through controlled access points while passengers board and disembark. Any obstruction near an exit gate can affect the movement of vehicles and create difficulties for staff managing traffic inside and around the station.

The allegations relate to the conduct of the three named accused in this particular incident. They do not establish wrongdoing by transgender people as a group. The police investigation and subsequent legal process will determine the facts of the case and the charges that can be sustained.

The complaint was filed by a transport official rather than being based only on an individual passenger’s account. The report did not provide details of the specific legal sections invoked, the number of passengers allegedly approached, or whether any passenger suffered an injury. It also did not report a statement from the accused or their legal representatives.

Kagadapith police have begun further investigation into the incident. The next steps will include examining the complaint and the circumstances surrounding the alleged obstruction and demands for money at the Gita Mandir bus station.
