The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s food department has found 27 uncertified food samples and sealed or closed 19 food businesses during an intensive inspection drive conducted across the city’s zones and wards between October 1 and November 2, 2026.
According to the food department’s enforcement report, officials collected 841 food samples during the campaign under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The food business operators linked to the 27 samples declared uncertified are facing legal action under applicable rules.
The department also inspected 2,226 food business establishments during the drive and issued 110 notices to units found violating food safety or hygiene requirements. The inspections covered the quality and cleanliness of food products as part of the civic body’s public-health enforcement work.
Officials destroyed approximately 1,345 kilograms of food products considered unfit for consumption. The civic body also recovered Rs 11,28,500 as administrative charges during the campaign. In addition, 514 TPC tests were conducted to assess food quality.
The reported violations included unhygienic conditions, operating without a valid FSSAI licence or registration, and irregularities in the storage and production of food items. These findings led the department to take action against establishments that did not comply with food safety requirements.
The 19 units that were sealed or closed were identified as operating in violation of the applicable rules. The action adds an enforcement layer beyond notices and administrative charges, with the department using closure measures against businesses where officials found serious compliance concerns.
The municipal food department has said that intensive inspections will continue in the coming days. The next phase of enforcement is expected to focus on food businesses across Ahmedabad’s different zones and ward areas, with action continuing against hygiene, licensing, storage and production violations identified during inspections.
