Noida traffic police have imposed a one-week traffic plan around Sector 18 and Atta Market from Friday to manage congestion during the Dhanteras and Diwali shopping period, including a ban on autos, e-rickshaws and goods vehicles on the road connecting the two busy markets.
The restrictions cover the main road between Sector 18 and Atta Market, where the entry of e-rickshaws, autos and other goods-carrying vehicles has been prohibited. The traffic police said the changes are intended to keep the market area moving and reduce pressure on roads used by shoppers and other vehicles.
Vehicles travelling towards Sector 37 and Sector 16 Metro stations through the affected stretch will have to use alternative routes. According to the traffic plan, they can travel via Sector 28, take a U-turn under the Elevated Road and proceed in front of GIP Mall before using the route beneath the Film City flyover.
The traffic police have also designated roads near major markets and junctions as no-parking zones. Officials said vehicles parked in these areas may be removed by crane. Additional monitoring will be carried out at major intersections and congested routes during the period of the restrictions.
Traffic changes may also be introduced, if required, near Sector 29 Brahmaputra Market, Sector 75, Ek Murti roundabout, Kasna and Dadri markets. The authorities said these measures would help reduce pressure on main roads and ease movement around shopping areas.
The changes come as traffic volumes have already increased ahead of the festivals. On Thursday, slow-moving traffic was reported on several routes, including the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway between Sector 128 and the Chilla border, and between the Sector 62 Model Town roundabout and the Sector 60 underpass. DCP Traffic Syed Ali Abbas acknowledged that some roads were affected by heavier vehicle volumes, while stating that traffic personnel were present at congestion points and that no prolonged gridlock had occurred.
Public transport capacity has also been extended on the Noida-Greater Noida Metro corridor. The Noida Metro Rail Corporation began operating later services from November 1, with the final metro from Sector 51 now departing at 11.25 pm instead of 10 pm. Additional services are scheduled at 10.20 pm, 10.40 pm and 11 pm. The source report said these late-night services have recorded around 2,000 riders over the past four days, including passengers travelling from Delhi towards Greater Noida.
The traffic restrictions and diversions will remain in force for one week, while traffic police personnel continue monitoring market roads and make further route changes where necessary.
