Delhi Reviews 1,090 Trans-Yamuna Projects as ₹110 Crore Released

Delhi’s Trans-Yamuna development projects are set for a fresh review after the Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board received 1,090 proposals for roads, parks, footpaths, public spaces and other basic infrastructure across eastern Delhi. The proposals were examined at the board’s 62nd meeting, while ₹110.10 crore has been released so far for approved works.

The meeting was held at the Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday under the chairmanship of board president and legislator Arvinder Singh Lovely. The meeting was attended by Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, legislators from different Trans-Yamuna constituencies and officials from the Delhi government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Delhi Jal Board and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department.

According to the report, the board reviewed the progress of approved schemes, pending projects and budget requirements. Officials also discussed outstanding financial liabilities and proposals for releasing the next instalment for ongoing works.

The ₹110.10 crore released to date comprises the first and second instalments for approved development works. The meeting did not provide a project-wise breakup of the amount or specify how many of the 1,090 proposals have received administrative or financial approval. The proposals were described as covering infrastructure needs identified across different Assembly constituencies in the Trans-Yamuna area.

Lovely directed officials to identify and remove the reasons behind delays in development works. He also called for the creation of durable public assets that would provide long-term benefits to residents. A priority list is to be prepared for roads, parks, foot overbridges and public spaces so that work can be taken up according to local requirements.

The board also plans to create a departmental portal to improve transparency and accountability. The portal is expected to provide information on the progress of works being undertaken by different agencies. The report did not specify the portal’s launch date, the data it will publish or the agency responsible for maintaining it.

The decision to involve multiple civic and public agencies reflects the administrative complexity of delivering local infrastructure in eastern Delhi. Roads, parks, footpaths, water-related works and flood-control assets may involve different departments, making coordination and the release of instalments important to project execution. The meeting brought representatives of these agencies together to review pending work and financial requirements.

The Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board was established in March 1994 with the stated objective of planned development in the region and reducing development disparities between the area east of the Yamuna and other parts of the capital. The current proposal list therefore combines immediate neighbourhood works with the board’s longer-standing institutional mandate.

The board is scheduled to meet every three months to review major projects and address obstacles affecting implementation. The next reviews will determine how many of the 1,090 proposals move from submission to approval, funding and execution, but no further project-wise timeline was provided in the report.
