Pulianchola Tourist Ban Follows Heavy Rain and Rising Water Inflow

Authorities have barred tourists from entering the Pulianchola eco-tourism area in Namakkal district after rainfall in the Kolli Hills region led to a sharp increase in water inflow, according to a report by Dinamalar. The restriction has been imposed as a safety measure for visitors.

Namakkal district has received heavy and light rain for more than 15 days, with showers continuing in several parts of the district. Although the district experienced strong sunshine on the previous day, rain was recorded in the Erumapatti and Tiruchengode surrounding areas.

Rainfall data recorded up to 6 am showed that Erumapatti received 20 millimetres of rain in the preceding 24 hours. Tiruchengode recorded 13.60 millimetres, while Kolli Hills received 6 millimetres during the same period.

The rainfall in the Kolli Hills has increased water inflow into the Pulianchola eco-tourism area. The resulting conditions prompted authorities to stop tourist access, with visitor safety cited as the reason for the decision.

Pulianchola is a visitor destination in Namakkal district where changes in rainfall can quickly affect water movement and access conditions. The reported closure illustrates the operational safety challenge faced by eco-tourism locations during prolonged wet-weather periods, particularly when water levels change after rain in surrounding hill areas.

Rain was also reported in Rasipuram and nearby areas on the same day. The report did not specify how long the restriction at Pulianchola would remain in force or when tourist access would be restored. Further access decisions will depend on local conditions and the safety assessment of the area.
