Five seventh-semester students from Bengaluru’s RV College of Engineering have secured annual job offers of more than Rs 1 crore from LinkedIn, including two packages worth Rs 1.4 crore each, according to the college and the students quoted by the Times of India.
The offers were made after the students completed three-month internships with LinkedIn during their sixth semester. The internships followed an on-campus recruitment drive involving an online assessment, a technical interview and a hiring manager round. Their full-time roles were offered through performance-based conversions rather than through a placement process alone.
All five students are from computer science and related streams and have academic scores above 9.5 CGPA. The students are Spoorthy S, from Computer Science and Engineering; Dhaksha Muthukumaran, from Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning; Vishal K Bhat, from Computer Science and Engineering; Ishan Shekhar Prasad, from Information Science and Engineering; and Nuthan B, from Computer Science and Engineering with a specialisation in Cyber Security.
The students will work out of Bengaluru. During the internship, they were part of an infrastructure team. Prasad, an Information Science and Engineering student, said the experience strengthened his interest in systems engineering and low-level infrastructure systems used at LinkedIn.
Muthukumaran said the selection process began with an online assessment focused on data structures and algorithms. This was followed by a technical round covering further data structures and algorithms questions, as well as project discussions, before the final hiring manager interaction on candidates’ resumes, projects and interests.
RVCE principal Prof KN Subramanya attributed the outcome to focused preparation, strong fundamentals in data structures and algorithms, competitive coding practice and advanced problem-solving skills. He said the students’ perseverance and technical depth helped them navigate LinkedIn’s selection process.
The placements come at a time when the technology sector is facing layoffs and a hiring freeze in several segments, making the offers a notable outcome for the institution and the students. The reported packages also show the continuing premium placed by technology employers on specialised technical skills, although the college report does not provide details of the number of students who participated in the recruitment drive or the total number of offers made by LinkedIn.
The five students are expected to join LinkedIn in Bengaluru after their internship-to-job conversions are completed.
