Telangana School Uniforms to Reflect Student Feedback Under New Plan

Telangana school uniforms could be redesigned based on student feedback under a new procurement plan discussed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who has also directed officials to ensure that uniforms and essential student kits reach schools on the day they reopen next academic year.

Reviewing the distribution of uniforms and student kits across departments on Wednesday, Revanth asked officials to collect students’ views on uniform colours and designs for future procurements. The preferences supported by the majority of students are to be considered while finalising future supplies for government schools, residential schools and hostels.

The review places student experience alongside procurement and delivery as part of the state’s school-supply process. According to officials, the quality of uniforms supplied this year had improved, with more appealing colours and designs than in previous years. The government now plans to formalise feedback before future uniform specifications are finalised.

Officials told the chief minister that distribution of uniforms, ties, belts, identity cards, shoes, socks, school bags, mats, plates, glasses and bowls was nearing completion. Delivery of items handled by one or two agencies had crossed 95%, they said, leaving a smaller portion of supplies still to be distributed.

Revanth directed officials to complete the remaining distribution without delay and ensure that students receive the pending items at the earliest. The instruction covers a range of supplies used by students in government-run schools and residential facilities, making the distribution schedule dependent on coordination across departments and suppliers.

The chief minister also called for a standard operating procedure for procuring and distributing uniforms and student kits from the next academic year. The proposed procedure is expected to establish a time-bound schedule covering the finalisation of requirements, tendering, procurement and distribution.

The delivery deadline sought by the government is the reopening day of schools. Revanth instructed officials to prepare an action plan so that uniforms and all essential student kits are available when students return, addressing delays reported in previous years.

The announcement links two separate aspects of public education supply: whether students find the uniforms acceptable and whether the state can deliver them on time. The immediate administrative task is to finish the small portion of the current distribution that remains pending. The next step is to prepare the standard operating procedure and action plan for the coming academic year.
