Ahmedabad train fare is set to fall for passengers on six services after railway authorities decided to shift them from the superfast category to the regular express category from January 2027. The change will remove the superfast surcharge and reduce ticket prices by between ₹15 and ₹75, depending on the class and journey.
The decision covers six trains operating through Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad. The lower fares are expected to apply across classes, including sleeper and air-conditioned coaches, because the additional superfast charge will no longer be collected.
The report identified the Jodhpur–Hadapsar–Jodhpur service as one of the affected trains. Its current numbers, 20495 and 20496, will change to 14809 and 14810. The service will operate as an express train from 3 January 2027.
For passengers using the Jodhpur–Hadapsar route through Ahmedabad, the report said there would be no change to the train’s operating schedule, route or existing stoppages. The change is limited to its classification, train numbers and fare structure. This means passengers should not expect a faster or slower timetable as a direct result of the revised category.
The fare reduction will vary by ticket class and distance. The reported range of ₹15 to ₹75 reflects the removal of the superfast surcharge rather than a general reduction in the base railway fare. Passengers travelling in higher classes could see a larger absolute reduction because the surcharge differs by class.
The move is relevant to Ahmedabad because the city’s railway stations serve as major interchange and boarding points for long-distance services connecting Gujarat with Rajasthan, Maharashtra and other regions. A category change on trains serving these corridors can affect regular commuters, intercity travellers and passengers who choose services based on total ticket cost.
The report also stated that four Western Railway trains would receive revised numbers and fares from 1 January 2027, while the Jodhpur–Hadapsar service would be affected from 3 January. It did not provide the complete list of all six services or the revised class-wise fares in the supplied material.
Passengers will need to check the updated train numbers and booking details before travelling after the changes take effect. The railway administration’s next operational step is to implement the revised classifications, numbers and fare structure at the stated January 2027 dates.
