The eight-year-old boy accused of assaulting a kindergarten girl at a Panchkula school has been sent to an observation home in Ambala after undergoing a psychological evaluation at Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh, officials said. The case has also led to the suspension of the school principal and two teachers, while police have registered a case against the school management.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditi Singh told The Times of India that the boy was sent back to the Ambala facility after his evaluation. “Further action will be initiated after the GMCH-32 report,” she said. Police are expecting the hospital’s report on Tuesday.
The evaluation was conducted at GMCH-32 in Chandigarh. Police had earlier indicated that a brain mapping test would be carried out at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research on Monday, but the test was not conducted, according to the report.
The police case has been registered against the school management under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 125B of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The provisions cited in the report relate to acts of rashness or negligence that endanger human life and result in grievous hurt. The case places the conduct of the school and its supervision systems under investigation alongside the actions of the accused child.
The education department has suspended the school principal and two teachers following the incident. The report does not specify the findings of any departmental inquiry or detail the alleged sequence of events inside the school. Those details are expected to form part of the police and administrative proceedings.
The girl is recovering at PGIMER-Chandigarh, officials said. Her father told The Times of India that the family hoped the authorities would provide suitable compensation to support her health, education and future. The report does not state whether any compensation has been approved or identify the authority responsible for deciding such assistance.
The case highlights the separate responsibilities now being exercised by the police, the education department and medical authorities. The police are awaiting the psychological evaluation before deciding further action involving the boy, while the education department’s suspensions represent an administrative response concerning the school. The next reported milestone is the submission of the GMCH-32 evaluation, after which police said further action would be initiated.
