A postal department vehicle became stuck between railway tracks at Ahmedabad’s Kalupur railway station during ongoing redevelopment work, disrupting movement on the line for about an hour and forcing railway staff to use a crane to remove it.
The incident occurred after the vehicle had unloaded postal bags near platforms 8 and 9 and was returning from the area. According to Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad, the vehicle became trapped while crossing the track, which has been newly laid as part of the station redevelopment project.
The driver and others initially tried to move the vehicle off the track, but those efforts were unsuccessful. A crane was subsequently called to pull the vehicle out. The line remained obstructed for approximately one hour until the vehicle was removed.
The affected route is also used by leaseholders and vehicle operators transporting goods and parcels towards the Sabarmati side of the station. The access road used for this movement has reportedly been dug up during the redevelopment work, making it difficult for lorries and other vehicles to cross the tracks.
Kalupur railway station is undergoing changes that include the redevelopment of platforms 9 and 10 and the laying of new railway lines. The incident has highlighted the operational difficulty created when an important goods and parcel access route is disrupted while construction activity continues inside an active railway complex.
The report said the vehicle’s presence on the track created the possibility of a serious accident if a train had arrived during the obstruction. It did not report any collision, injury or damage. The vehicle was removed in time with the assistance of the crane, allowing movement on the line to resume.
Goods and parcel operators have been facing difficulties because the route remains unavailable or difficult to use during the redevelopment works. The access road is described as important for transporting goods and parcels, with operators seeking its restoration so that vehicles can move without crossing the track under unsafe or inadequate conditions.
The incident places attention on how temporary access arrangements are being managed during the station’s redevelopment. The immediate next step identified in the report is the reconstruction of the dug-up road to provide relief to leaseholders and other vehicle operators using the goods and parcel route.
