A private parcel lorry belonging to MSS Travels caught fire on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway near Konavattam, Vellore. The vehicle, driven by 47-year-old R. Radhakrishnan from Virudhunagar, was on its way to Vellore after delivering consignments in Vaniyambadi and Gudiyatham towns.
The driver noticed smoke rising from the vehicle’s bonnet and immediately stopped and exited the lorry, ensuring his safety. His prompt alert to authorities enabled a swift response by the Virinjipuram police and Vellore firefighters.
Despite efforts to extinguish the flames, the lorry was completely gutted by the fire. Initial findings suggest an electrical short circuit as the probable cause. The Virinjipuram police have registered a case, and investigations are underway to ascertain the exact cause.
