The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has approved 23 road development projects worth Rs 450 crore. This decision, made during a recent Mayor-in-Council (MiC) meeting led by Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava and attended by IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma, highlights the city’s commitment to modernization and sustainable growth.
The approved projects are focused on improving key roads and public amenities, ensuring better connectivity, and aligning with Indore’s long-term urban planning. Among the major projects is the widening and construction of 23 crucial roads across the city, connecting areas such as Bhagirathpura, Kila Maidan, and the airport. These roads will ease traffic flow and provide smoother access to important parts of the city. In addition, the council has given its nod for the construction of 14 new roads, as per the city’s master plan, aimed at further enhancing Indore’s road network. A detailed project report (DPR) will be submitted to the state government for approval soon. As part of the city’s focus on sustainability, the council also approved the expansion of the Devguradia Biogas Plant. Currently operating at a capacity of 500 tons per day (TPD), it will now be upgraded to handle 800 TPD, contributing significantly to cleaner energy production and waste management. The introduction of 100 electric vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection is also part of the plan, promoting eco-friendly waste management practices. Furthermore, Indore’s green spaces are set to receive a boost with the approval of a project to develop gardens in all 22 zones of the city. Inspired by the success of the Eurasia Garden, this initiative will enhance the aesthetic appeal of Indore while promoting environmental sustainability.
The council’s decision also includes the procurement of road sweeping machines, the creation of a new garbage transfer station, and the implementation of incineration technology for the disposal of dead animals. These efforts are geared toward improving cleanliness across the city. Through these bold initiatives, Indore aims to transform itself into a modern, sustainable, and efficient city that caters to the needs of its growing population, while prioritizing environmental preservation and urban development. The new projects will not only improve the city’s infrastructure but also pave the way for a greener and more connected Indore.
