NTPC reported a 14% year-on-year rise in standalone net profit to Rs 5,320 crore for the second quarter of FY27, while revenue from operations increased 16.8% to Rs 45,752 crore. The state-owned power utility also announced an interim dividend and outlined continued investment in pumped storage projects and co-generation facilities.
The company’s standalone net profit stood at Rs 4,653 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. EBITDA increased 8.7% year-on-year to Rs 10,891 crore from Rs 10,018 crore, according to the results announced on October 31.
NTPC’s board approved a first interim dividend of 30%, equivalent to Rs 3 per equity share with a face value of Rs 10, for FY27. The company said November 6, 2026, would be the record date for determining shareholders eligible to receive the dividend.
At the group level, gross fixed assets rose to Rs 4,85,444 crore as of September 30, 2026, from Rs 4,37,142 crore a year earlier. Group capital expenditure during the first half of FY27 stood at Rs 23,932 crore, compared with Rs 23,115 crore during the same period of FY26.
The company is also expanding its focus on pumped storage, a form of electricity storage that uses surplus power to pump water to an elevated reservoir and generates electricity when required. NTPC Group’s pumped storage project portfolio has a total capacity of 16 GW.
Of that portfolio, the 1 GW Tehri pumped storage project operated by THDC is already under commercial operation. Detailed project reports are being prepared for the remaining projects, which together account for 15 GW of capacity. The company’s disclosure did not provide commissioning timelines for those projects.
NTPC has also invited expressions of interest from commercial and industrial entities interested in acquiring a 26% equity stake in co-generation projects. These plants are intended to supply both steam and electricity to industrial consumers.
The proposed co-generation projects are to be integrated with power supply arrangements combining coal-based generation, renewable energy and battery energy storage systems. The initiative indicates that NTPC is pursuing project structures that combine conventional generation with newer storage and renewable-energy assets, although the company has not disclosed the final partners or project-level investment details.
The results come as NTPC continues to expand its asset base while developing storage capacity. The company’s disclosures provide financial and capacity figures, but do not establish when the 15 GW of pumped storage projects under preparation will move into construction or commercial operation.
In the stock market, NTPC shares were down 4% year-to-date and 8% over the previous three months, according to the report. Over a five-year period, the stock was up nearly 140%.
