Delhi traffic curbs will be enforced across central parts of the city from 10 am to 5 pm on November 1 for an INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan, with diversions, regulated bus movement and parking restrictions expected around the venue.
The Delhi Traffic Police said diversions would be introduced at key intersections depending on traffic conditions. These include the Netaji Subhash Marg T-point, Rajghat, Delhi Gate, ITO A-point, Ajmeri Gate red light, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Jhandewalan roundabout, Turkman Gate and Mirdard Chowk.
Commuters have been warned of possible congestion on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg between ITO and Delhi Gate, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg between Rajghat and Ajmeri Gate, Aruna Asaf Ali Road, Minto Road, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road and Barakhamba Road. Traffic may also slow down around Kamla Market and Hamdard Chowk as attendees and vehicles move towards the rally site.
Additional traffic personnel will be deployed across the Central Range to regulate vehicular movement and guide commuters to designated parking areas. The police said the deployment would also be aimed at preventing congestion around Ramlila Maidan and managing traffic at the affected intersections.
A separate passage will be maintained near Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for emergency vehicles. Parking arrangements have been made at the railway parking area opposite the hospital, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation parking lots and Rajghat, according to the advisory.
Bus movement may be regulated on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, the Rajghat-Jawaharlal Nehru Marg stretch, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road and Minto Road. The restrictions could affect commuters travelling through central Delhi during the afternoon period, particularly those using routes connecting ITO, Delhi Gate, Ajmeri Gate, Connaught Place and New Delhi Railway Station.
Passengers travelling to New Delhi Railway Station have been advised to plan their journeys in advance. Those approaching the station from the Desh Bandhu Gupta Road side can use Chelmsford Road, Connaught Place’s Outer Circle, Minto Road and Bhavbhuti Marg.
Commuters travelling from east Delhi have been advised to use ITO, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg and Bhavbhuti Marg to reach the station. The alternative routes are intended to reduce pressure on roads closer to the rally venue and the affected central Delhi intersections.
The INDIA bloc has planned what it described as a mega rally over its allegations concerning “vote chori” and to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in voter lists. The source report said a march is also scheduled at noon from the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction to Ramlila Maidan.
The traffic police advisory did not announce a complete closure of all the affected roads. Instead, diversions and restrictions will be imposed according to traffic conditions, while emergency access and travel to New Delhi Railway Station remain specific operational priorities during the rally period.
