Hyderabad police and the Special Operations Team (SOT) raided an apartment in Prakash Nagar, Begumpet, after receiving information about an alleged illegal fertility racket operating from the premises, Telangana Today reported on Friday. Several women residing on the ground floor were detained for questioning during the operation.
According to the report, around eight to 10 women from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha were staying in the apartment. Police suspect that the premises had been operated as a ladies’ hostel for nearly a year while allegedly being used for activities linked to the collection and supply of human eggs to nearby fertility centres.
The allegations have not been established by an investigation or court finding. Police are questioning the women and examining the role of others connected with the premises. The report said authorities are also investigating whether male sperm was being supplied along with women’s eggs and whether fertility clinics were linked to the suspected operation.
The raid was conducted jointly by the Begumpet police and the SOT after the authorities received information about the alleged activities. A woman suspected of being involved in running the operation is reportedly being questioned. Police are examining the alleged collection and sale of eggs, the roles of the people involved and possible connections with fertility centres.
The case has brought attention to the use of residential accommodation presented as a hostel for activities that may fall outside ordinary housing and lodging arrangements. The women reportedly came from three states and were staying together in an apartment, but the available report does not establish how they were recruited, whether they consented to the alleged procedures, or whether any payments were made.
The report also does not identify the fertility centres allegedly connected to the operation, specify the medical procedures involved, or state whether any clinic has been booked or questioned. Those details remain part of the police investigation. The identities of the detained women and the suspected operator have not been disclosed in the report.
Authorities are continuing to question those found at the premises and investigate possible links between the apartment, the alleged collection of eggs and nearby fertility facilities. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing probe.
