New Sabarmati-Varanasi Express to Boost Gujarat Rail Connectivity

A new daily Sabarmati-Varanasi Express and a twice-daily Mehsana-Becharaji-Sabarmati MEMU service are scheduled to be flagged off through video conferencing by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offering new rail links for passengers across Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

According to a report by Divya Bhaskar – Ahmedabad, the Sabarmati-Varanasi Express will operate every day between Sabarmati and Varanasi. The train will leave Sabarmati at 5.20 am and reach Varanasi at 6.30 am the following day. In the return direction, it will depart Varanasi at 5.30 pm and reach Sabarmati at 8.15 pm the next day.

The service will stop at Mehsana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Agra Junction, Tundla, Govindpuri and Mirzapur, among other stations listed in the report. The route will connect major cities and rail junctions across Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh through a permanent daily service.

The second service will connect Mehsana, Becharaji and Sabarmati, with operations planned twice a day. The report describes the MEMU as an important link for North Gujarat, including passengers travelling to Becharaji’s Bahuchar Mata temple and workers and employees commuting to the area’s automobile and industrial hubs.

On the morning run, the train will leave Sabarmati at 6.40 am, reach Becharaji at 8.05 am and arrive at Mehsana at 9.45 am. It will stop at Chandkheda, Kalol, Kadi, Bhoyani, Katosan Road, Becharaji, Chanasma and Ranauj.

The return service will depart Mehsana at 4.40 pm and reach Becharaji at 5.49 pm before arriving at Sabarmati at 8.30 pm. A second evening service will leave Sabarmati at 5.05 pm, reach Becharaji at 6.48 pm and depart for Mehsana at 6.50 pm, arriving there at 8.25 pm.

The morning and evening options are expected to provide an additional rail choice for daily passengers travelling between Sabarmati, Becharaji and Mehsana. The Becharaji connection also links passenger mobility with the area’s religious travel and industrial activity, although the report does not provide passenger capacity, fares or a detailed operating timetable beyond the stated departure and arrival times.

The reported launch is scheduled to take place through video conferencing, with the two services forming part of a pre-Diwali expansion of rail connectivity for passengers in Gujarat. Further operational details, including the formal inauguration arrangements and ticketing information, were not specified in the supplied report.
