AIMSS Chamiana Gets 50 Security Staff, 50 Sanitation Workers

The Himachal Pradesh government has approved new and redistributed posts for the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS), Chamiana, in Shimla, adding medical, paramedical, operational and support staff to strengthen super-speciality healthcare and clinical services at the institute.

The decision includes the creation of new posts and the redistribution of existing sanctioned positions from Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, and other departments of AIMSS. According to a government press statement cited by the Times of India, the move is intended to ensure adequate staffing across departments and rationalise available manpower.

The approved medical positions include faculty members and senior residents in Critical Care Medicine, Anaesthesia, Surgical Gastroenterology and Radiology. The posts cover professors, associate professors, assistant professors and senior residents, expanding the staffing structure for departments that support complex clinical care and specialist services.

The government has also approved one dietitian, two Central Sterile Supply Department supervisors and one chief pharmacist. These roles will support hospital functions linked to patient nutrition, sterilisation and surgical readiness, and the supply of medicines and related clinical materials.

AIMSS Chamiana will additionally be allowed to engage 50 security personnel, 50 sanitary workers and 50 ward attendants. The support workforce is expected to cover essential non-clinical operations, including security, sanitation and ward-level assistance, which are necessary for the functioning of a large hospital alongside its doctors and nursing teams.

The approved staffing plan also includes five laboratory technicians each for pathology, biochemistry, microbiology and the blood bank. In addition, the government has cleared the engagement of four Arogya Mitras, two physiotherapists, three drivers and one junior office assistant specialising in information technology.

The laboratory technician positions will add staff across four diagnostic areas, while the physiotherapists and Arogya Mitras will support patient care and assistance services. The approved drivers and IT office assistant are intended to address transport and administrative requirements at the institute.

The government has also approved the hiring of two buses for AIMSS Chamiana. The press statement did not specify the buses’ operating routes, deployment schedule or the implementation timeline for the approved appointments and services. It also did not provide a consolidated figure for the number of posts being newly created compared with those being redistributed from existing sanctioned strength.

The decision places staffing and operational support at the centre of the institute’s next phase of development. The immediate implementation will depend on the appointment or engagement process for the approved positions and the deployment of the additional hospital support infrastructure.
