Mumbai Rain Alert: IMD Forecasts Showers, Thunderstorms Across Maharashtra

Mumbai and its adjoining areas are likely to receive light rain on Thursday, October 29, while the India Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, rainfall and gusty winds across several parts of Maharashtra. A yellow alert has been issued for parts of the state, with weather conditions expected to remain unsettled across Konkan, north Maharashtra, Marathwada, western Maharashtra and Vidarbha.

According to the IMD weather bulletin, isolated areas in several districts may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds. Wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are forecast in several districts, while gusts of 40 to 50 kmph are possible in parts of Vidarbha.

Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are expected to receive light rainfall on Thursday. Raigad and Ratnagiri may experience thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated locations. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers have also been forecast for Sindhudurg.

The bulletin indicates that light rain may continue in parts of the Konkan region on Friday, October 30, before conditions turn dry over the following days. The forecast could affect daily travel and outdoor activity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, particularly in areas where short-duration rainfall can slow road traffic and reduce visibility. The IMD bulletin, however, does not specify local disruptions or rainfall totals for Mumbai.

Thunderstorm activity has also been forecast in north Maharashtra. Dhule and Nandurbar may receive thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places. Similar conditions are possible in Nashik and the Nashik Ghats, while Jalgaon and Ahilyanagar may receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers.

Pune and its surrounding ghat areas are also likely to receive rain or thundershowers. Kolhapur, the Kolhapur Ghats and Satara may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers, with isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds possible in the Satara Ghats. Sangli and Solapur may receive light rain or thundershowers.

Several Vidarbha districts, including Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal, may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph at isolated places. Gadchiroli may receive thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph. The IMD bulletin indicates no weather warning for Buldhana and Washim on Thursday.

Rain has also been forecast across parts of Marathwada. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar may receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers, while Jalna may experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated locations. Light rain or thundershowers are forecast in Parbhani, while Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv may receive light rainfall.

The IMD’s forecast remains focused on isolated weather activity, with conditions varying significantly between districts. The next immediate milestone for the Mumbai region is the continuation of light rain in parts of Konkan on Friday before the forecast indicates drier conditions in the following days.
