The India Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts for parts of Delhi-NCR, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms in the capital on October 30, with cloudy conditions potentially making the moon difficult to see during Karwa Chauth.
According to the latest forecast cited by Live Hindustan – NCR, a red alert was issued until about 3.40 pm for North Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi and South-West Delhi. Central Delhi, North-East Delhi and South-East Delhi were placed under an orange alert. Gurugram was issued a yellow alert until 6 pm.
Delhi is expected to record a minimum temperature of about 19 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 26 degrees Celsius on October 29. For October 30, the forecast indicates rain accompanied by thunderstorms, with the minimum temperature expected to be 17 degrees Celsius and the maximum likely to reach 27 degrees Celsius.
The alert has direct implications for road users, pedestrians and commuters across the National Capital Region. Heavy rain and thunderstorms can affect visibility and travel conditions, particularly during periods of intense rainfall. The source report did not provide details of any traffic diversions, school closures, transport suspensions or municipal emergency measures.
The forecast indicates partly cloudy conditions for October 31, with temperatures expected to range between 18 and 29 degrees Celsius. Clear weather is expected on November 1, when the minimum temperature is forecast at 17 degrees Celsius and the maximum at 30 degrees Celsius.
The weather is expected to remain clear on November 2, 3 and 4. The minimum temperature is forecast at 16 degrees Celsius and the maximum at 30 degrees Celsius on each of those days, according to the report.
The adverse weather forecast could also affect Karwa Chauth observances. Women observing the fast traditionally wait to see the moon before ending it. The report said that continuing rain and cloud cover may make the moon difficult to see in the evening.
Weather expert Navdeep Dahiya said that intermittent rain and overcast skies across Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas could create difficulty for moon visibility. He said Delhi-NCR, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh could receive intermittent rain through the day, with cloud cover continuing into the night.
The IMD’s alert covers different parts of the region for different time periods, while the extended forecast points to improving conditions from October 31 and clearer weather from November 1. Residents should follow further advisories issued by the weather department and local authorities as the forecast is updated.
