The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation sealed 11 construction sites in the western part of the city after finding that they had not installed mandatory green nets intended to curb construction-related pollution, according to a Times of India report. The action was taken by the AMC estate department’s North-West Zone on Wednesday.
The sealed sites include Kaliram Hostel and Eklavya School in Chandlodia, along with The Signature, Akshar Evira, Nityam Glory and Soundarya Alina in Gota. In Thaltej, municipal officials sealed Kala Montana, Sun Setu Sky, Aditya Two and Sola Sparsh. The Dev X site in Bodakdev was also included in the enforcement action.
Green nets are required under a 2023 circular issued by the AMC town development department. The circular makes their installation mandatory at construction sites as a measure to reduce pollution. The reported enforcement places construction-site compliance within the AMC’s broader estate and development-control responsibilities.
The municipal action also covered other violations in the western zones. A gas godown in Chandlodia’s Chamundanagar area was sealed for operating without a permit, according to the report.
In Bharwad Vas in the Bodakdev ward, the AMC demolished an illegal shed-type structure built in the margin space along a 12-metre-wide road. The action concerned construction in space reserved along the road corridor.
The Atithi Gokul project in Gota ward faced separate action after officials found that it did not have green nets and that construction activity had encroached on the road. The project was fined Rs 25,000 for damaging the footpath.
The measures show that the AMC’s enforcement drive covered both pollution-control requirements at active building sites and the use of public or regulated urban space. The reported actions involved construction sites across Chandlodia, Gota, Thaltej and Bodakdev, as well as a commercial storage facility and an unauthorised roadside structure.
The source report did not specify how long the 11 construction sites would remain sealed, whether the affected developers had submitted compliance plans, or what conditions would be required for the seals to be lifted. It also did not provide details of further inspections or penalties under the 2023 green-net circular.
