Bengaluru Pink Line Opening Faces Date Uncertainty After Safety Clearance

Bengaluru’s Metro Pink Line has received safety approval for its 7.5-km elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, but the date of its public inauguration remains unconfirmed. The supplied report from Vijay Karnataka says Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit Bengaluru on November 15 to inaugurate the section, while also stating that the official date is yet to be finalised.

The section forms part of the Pink Line and includes six stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere. Jayadeva Hospital is expected to serve as an important interchange station connecting the Pink and Yellow lines.

According to the report, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety conducted a statutory safety inspection of the corridor between October 6 and 8. The final safety certificate has since been received, allowing the authorities to prepare the section for passenger operations once the inauguration schedule and other formalities are completed.

Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the safety approval followed sustained work on the corridor. He said the state was ready to open the line for public service as soon as the Union government fixed the inauguration date. He also said further construction work remained on later stages of the project, while the approved section could be commissioned after the required process was completed.

The opening of the corridor would increase Bengaluru Metro’s operational network from 96.1 km to 103.6 km, according to the supplied report. The six-station stretch would add an elevated connection through parts of south Bengaluru and provide an interchange at Jayadeva Hospital, where passengers will be able to connect with the Yellow Line.

The report attributes the proposed November 15 visit to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, but it also says that the date has not yet been officially confirmed. This distinction is important because the safety certificate establishes that the corridor has cleared the cited statutory inspection process; it does not, by itself, confirm the inauguration programme or the start date for passenger services.

Shivakumar also said the state government planned to seek a meeting with the Prime Minister over drought relief funding. He said the government would wait until November 1 for an opportunity to hold a meeting and, if no earlier appointment was available, would request time for an all-party delegation during the proposed Bengaluru visit. The delegation would seek the release of drought relief funds for Karnataka.

The deputy chief minister further said that bank-account verification for eligible farmers was under way to ensure that drought relief reached the intended beneficiaries. The supplied report does not provide the amount sought from the Centre, the proposed passenger-service start date, or details of any remaining operational approvals.

The immediate next milestone for the Pink Line is therefore the formal confirmation of the inauguration schedule and the public-service opening date. Until that announcement is issued by the competent authorities, November 15 should be treated as a proposed date rather than a confirmed commissioning deadline.
