The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has proposed widening the road from Sarangpur Circle to the DCP Zone-3 office from 18 metres to 30 metres, with 17 properties marked for demolition to create access to the redeveloped Kalupur railway station.
The civic body has issued a public notice under Section 210 of the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act, inviting objections and suggestions from affected property owners and other members of the public. The proposed widening will add 2,965 square metres to the existing road corridor.
The stretch is part of the access and circulation plan linked to the Kalupur railway station redevelopment project. Owners of shops along the route have been issued notices to hand back the spaces, which had been allotted through permits, according to the report.
The proposed change will increase the road width by 12 metres. The affected stretch runs between Sarangpur Circle and the DCP Zone-3 office, a route that will serve passengers and traffic approaching the railway station once redevelopment work is completed.
Officials said the redeveloped station is expected to handle approximately 3.12 lakh passengers each day. They said the projected footfall made it necessary to create proper transit routes and reduce congestion in the surrounding areas.
The proposed land adjustment reflects the way major station redevelopment projects can require changes beyond the railway premises. In this case, the municipal road network is being altered to accommodate movement around the station, while properties and permitted commercial spaces along the approach road are directly affected.
The public notice gives residents, property owners and other stakeholders an opportunity to submit their objections and suggestions before the proposed road widening proceeds. The civic process will determine how the notified properties and the additional road area are incorporated into the project.
The next formal step is the consideration of objections and suggestions submitted in response to the AMC notice. The road widening proposal remains linked to the wider redevelopment of Kalupur railway station and its planned passenger-handling capacity.
