The Enforcement Directorate’s Ahmedabad office has filed a prosecution complaint before the PMLA court in Bhadra, Ahmedabad, against Western Railway official Prashant Rabari over alleged money laundering and disproportionate assets worth about ₹2.58 crore.
According to the agency’s investigation, Rabari allegedly accumulated movable and immovable assets in his name and his wife’s name between 1 January 2017 and 2 February 2021, while he was employed with Western Railway. The assets were allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The case was initiated after an FIR was registered in Gandhinagar under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Enforcement Directorate said the alleged offences in that case constituted scheduled offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, enabling it to begin a money-laundering investigation.
The agency’s findings allege that the assets were acquired through corrupt and illegal activities during the investigation period. The alleged total includes movable and immovable properties and other assets valued at approximately ₹2.58 crore.
As part of the investigation, the Enforcement Directorate issued a provisional attachment order covering immovable properties valued at about ₹2 crore. The agency said these properties were acquired through the direct use of allegedly illicit funds. The attached properties were subsequently placed before the PMLA court through the prosecution complaint.
The filing places the alleged conduct within the financial and administrative oversight framework governing public servants and public-sector railway operations. However, the allegations remain subject to judicial examination, and the filing of a prosecution complaint does not by itself establish guilt.
The matter will now proceed before the PMLA court in Ahmedabad, which will consider the agency’s complaint and the attachment proceedings under the applicable law.
