Western Railway has closed the south staircase of the second north foot overbridge connecting Platforms 2 and 3 at Mira Road railway station with immediate effect, citing station improvement work being carried out by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation.
The closure means commuters using the affected foot overbridge staircase will no longer be able to use that access point while the work is under way. Western Railway said the staircase is being closed because MRVC will dismantle it as part of the improvement project at the station.
The railway authority informed passengers about the change and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused. Commuters travelling through Mira Road station have been advised to take note of the closure and plan their movement within the station accordingly.
The affected structure is the second north foot overbridge, and the staircase being closed is on its south side. The bridge connects Platforms 2 and 3, making the access change relevant to passengers moving between those platforms or navigating the station during their journey.
The announcement does not specify how long the staircase will remain closed, whether an alternative access route has been formally designated, or when the dismantling and related station improvement work will be completed. Western Railway also did not provide details of the broader scope of the improvement project in the statement cited in the report.
For passengers, the immediate operational issue is the need to allow additional time to move through the station and to check available access points before changing platforms. The closure will remain in force while MRVC proceeds with the planned dismantling of the staircase. Western Railway’s passenger advisory is the current instruction for commuters using Mira Road station.
