A signal failure at Kanjurmarg railway station disrupted Central Railway suburban services on Monday, affecting train operations at Kanjurmarg and on the section between Vikhroli and Bhandup before all four affected lines were restored by 6.18 pm.
According to Central Railway, the failure occurred at around 9.30 am, causing signals at Kanjurmarg and on the affected section to go blank. Railway authorities introduced alternative operating arrangements to ensure trains could continue moving safely during the disruption.
Trains were operated under special safety procedures at Kanjurmarg and on the Vikhroli-Bhandup section. Absolute Block Working was introduced on the Down Local and Down Through lines between Vikhroli and Bhandup, as well as on the Up Local and Up Through lines between Bhandup and Vikhroli.
Central Railway also said trains were operated under TD 912 authority in accordance with prescribed safety procedures. The first trains to run under the arrangements included Train No. K39 on the Down Slow Line and Train No. BL11 on the Down Fast Line from Vikhroli.
Repair work began after the failure, with signalling restored in phases across the affected routes. The Down Fast Line was restored at 4.10 pm, followed by the Up Fast Line at 4.46 pm. The Down Slow Line became operational at 5.30 pm, while the Up Slow Line was restored at 6.18 pm.
The restoration of the Up Slow Line brought all four affected suburban lines back into service by Monday evening. The incident had affected a section of Mumbai’s suburban railway network used by daily commuters travelling between Central Railway stations in the eastern suburbs.
Central Railway appealed to passengers not to walk on or cross railway tracks during service disruptions. Commuters were advised to use foot overbridges, escalators and lifts to move between platforms, while following designated passenger access routes and railway safety procedures.
