Pune Mosquito Control Gets 17 New Civic Officers as PMC Steps Up Action

The Pune Municipal Corporation has appointed 17 officers across its ward offices to strengthen mosquito control and coordinate responses to breeding-site complaints linked to dengue, chikungunya and malaria risks. The civic body has also asked residents to report stagnant water and mosquito larvae to their respective ward offices.

The appointments have been made by the PMC’s Health and Vector-Borne Disease Control Department. The designated officers will coordinate with ward offices to address complaints about mosquito breeding and arrange insecticide spraying wherever necessary, according to information reported by Punekar News.

The civic body has asked residents to inspect their homes and residential societies for stagnant water, which can allow mosquitoes to breed. Water tanks, drums, barrels and other storage containers should be kept covered and cleaned regularly, while discarded objects such as old tyres, plastic containers and flowerpot trays should not be allowed to collect water.

The PMC has also advised residents to remove stagnant water from refrigerators, air coolers and flower vases. Regular checks around homes and residential complexes, along with general cleanliness, have been included in the preventive guidance issued by the health department. Residents have additionally been advised to wear full-sleeved clothing to reduce exposure to mosquito bites.

The civic response places ward offices at the centre of complaint handling. Residents who identify mosquito larvae or potential breeding sites have been asked to contact their local PMC ward office so that the issue can be assessed and action, including insecticide spraying where necessary, can be coordinated. The civic appeal makes household and residential-society inspections an important part of the control effort alongside municipal intervention.

The 17 officers appointed for the coordination work are Murali Tate, Vishwanath Borate, Swapnil Karanjkar, Govind Satpute, Girish Kalkas, Amol Havaladar, Vishal Padwal, Anand Chabukswar, Fakir Shaikh, Vishal Rupnar, Nilambar Kharat, Rajendra Dhayarkar, Ganpat Shinde, Raju Ukarde, Yuvraj Hole, Prakash More and Rohan Chavan.

The health department has urged people with symptoms including fever, body aches or headaches to seek medical examination at a municipal hospital. Residents who experience symptoms that may indicate dengue, malaria or other mosquito-borne illnesses have been advised not to delay medical consultation. The PMC has appealed for cooperation from residents through prevention of water stagnation, maintenance of cleanliness and prompt reporting of breeding sites to ward offices.
