Delhi School Death Raises Questions Over Security at Government Campus

A 17-year-old Class 12 student died after she was found severely burned inside a government school in Krishna Nagar, East Delhi, prompting Delhi Police to question teachers, school staff and a security guard while examining CCTV footage from the campus.

According to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR, the student was attending her seventh-period class on Saturday when she sought permission to go out to drink water. Police said she left the classroom carrying a bottle and went behind the guard room, near a water tank. She was later found badly burned at the spot.

School staff reached the area after hearing her screams and found the student lying face down with severe burn injuries. Police were informed and she was taken to hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Deputy Commissioner of Police Shahdara R P Meena said police received information about the incident at 11.58 am.

Police have seized the digital video recorder containing the school’s CCTV footage and are examining it to reconstruct the sequence of events. Investigators are also questioning the security guard to establish where he was positioned at the time and how the student reached the area without being noticed by teachers or security personnel.

The report said police are examining multiple possible explanations, including whether the student was facing a personal difficulty. A three-page note was reportedly recovered from her school bag. Police are examining its contents, including references to her family and a friend. The contents have not been independently verified in the supplied report, and the circumstances of the death remain under investigation.

Police are also examining the family’s allegation that the student may have been the victim of a conspiracy. The report said investigators were questioning classmates, family members and friends as part of the inquiry. No final conclusion about the cause or circumstances of the death has been announced.

The incident places attention on the functioning of security arrangements inside government schools, including supervision during class hours, access to peripheral areas and the coverage and review of CCTV systems. The available report does not establish whether any security protocol was breached or whether the school had previously reported concerns about the location behind the guard room.

The student was enrolled at a Rajकीय Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in the area. Delhi Police’s next steps are to review the CCTV footage, question relevant school personnel and examine the note and other evidence before determining how the incident occurred.
