The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, warning of hot and humid conditions in isolated areas on Sunday as temperatures in Mumbai remain above or close to seasonal levels.
Mumbai is expected to see mainly clear skies, with hot and humid conditions likely to persist in parts of the city and its suburbs. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to remain near 26 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD’s Mumbai weather update issued at 8.30 am on Sunday.
Both Colaba and Santacruz recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Colaba’s reading was 0.5 degrees above normal, while Santacruz recorded a temperature within the normal range. Night temperatures remained relatively warm, with Colaba recording a minimum of 26.4 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees above normal. Santacruz recorded a minimum of 24.3 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees above normal.
Humidity levels added to the discomfort expected across the city. At 8.30 am on Sunday, relative humidity stood at 82 per cent in Colaba and 78 per cent in Santacruz. On Saturday evening, the readings were 76 per cent and 64 per cent respectively.
The alert covers four districts in and around the Mumbai metropolitan region: Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad. The IMD warning indicates that hot and humid conditions may occur in isolated areas, while the broader forecast for the city points to mainly clear skies rather than widespread rainfall.
The weather pattern was part of wider warm conditions across Maharashtra. Solapur recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 36.2 degrees Celsius, which was 3.2 degrees above normal. Jalgaon followed at 35.8 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees above normal, while Ahilyanagar recorded 35.2 degrees Celsius, 3.4 degrees above normal.
Coastal districts also experienced warm conditions and high morning humidity. Ratnagiri and Dahanu recorded maximum temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius, while Harnai recorded 34.5 degrees Celsius, 2.5 degrees above normal. Harnai’s minimum temperature was 26 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees above normal. At 8.30 am, relative humidity was 83 per cent in Ratnagiri, 74 per cent in Harnai and 71 per cent in Dahanu.
Most districts across Maharashtra are expected to experience dry weather through the week, although isolated rainfall was recorded in parts of the state on Saturday. Kolhapur received 18.8 mm of rain, the highest reported total, while Nashik recorded 4.9 mm. Kolhapur also recorded high humidity, reaching 89 per cent at 8.30 am on Sunday and 98 per cent at 5.30 pm on Saturday.
The IMD’s yellow alert remains the immediate weather advisory for Mumbai and the three neighbouring districts. Residents have been advised through the weather update to remain mindful of hot and humid conditions, particularly during the warmer parts of the day.
