Hyderabad’s Boduppal bus terminal project is set to move forward with a foundation stone ceremony on Saturday, as the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) takes up a ₹3.22-crore facility aimed at easing congestion at Uppal crossroads.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar will lay the foundation stone at the zonal workshop premises, where the proposed city bus terminal will be developed. The project is intended to separate bus halting and operating activity from the busy Uppal junction, where city service and district service buses currently stop at the same time.
The simultaneous movement and halting of buses at the crossroads has contributed to bottlenecks and affected commuter movement, according to the project details reported by Deccan Chronicle. The new facility is expected to provide a designated location for bus operations rather than allowing services to converge at the junction.
The project report provides for dedicated bus bays, heavy-duty concrete driveways, passenger shelters and public toilet blocks. A compound wall will also be built around the premises to protect the terminal site. The reported project cost is ₹3.22 crore, with the work being funded by the MMC.
The terminal proposal followed joint inspections and coordination involving the MMC, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation and traffic police officials. That coordination has linked the civic corporation’s infrastructure work with the transport agency’s operational requirements and traffic management at the junction.
Uppal crossroads currently handles both city and district bus services, making it a point where different types of bus movement overlap with regular traffic. The proposed terminal is therefore focused on bus organisation and passenger handling rather than on adding another service route. Its dedicated bays and passenger shelters are intended to give buses and commuters a defined space away from the junction itself.
For passengers, the project includes basic terminal facilities such as sheltered waiting areas and public toilets in addition to bus bays and access driveways. The heavy-duty concrete surface is planned for bus movement within the premises, while the compound wall will define and secure the facility.
The announcement also highlights the administrative role of the MMC in addressing a transport problem through a civic infrastructure project. While TGSRTC and traffic police officials were involved in the inspections and coordination, the corporation is financing the terminal and taking responsibility for the proposed physical works.
The project’s immediate operational objective is to streamline bus operations and improve commuter movement around Uppal. The foundation stone ceremony on Saturday marks the next publicly announced milestone for the facility; the supplied project details do not specify a construction completion date or the terminal’s future operating schedule.
