Bengaluru Parcel Blast Probe Widens as Police Track Sender

Bengaluru police have intensified efforts to identify the person who allegedly sent or placed a parcel containing a crude bomb at a construction site in Pulakeshinagar, after the device exploded and injured two workers. Investigators are examining call records, CCTV footage from more than 100 locations and forensic samples collected from the site.

The explosion occurred on October 20 at a building under construction on Jarmia Road, within the limits of the Pulakeshinagar police station. According to police sources cited by Prajavani, an unidentified person called building security guard Allauddin on the morning of the incident and said that a parcel had been sent for workers.

Allauddin received a battery-shaped parcel and informed Suraj, a worker employed on the fifth floor. The two men reportedly went to a lower floor to open the parcel, when the explosion took place. Both sustained burn injuries. Allauddin has since been discharged from hospital, while Suraj continues to receive treatment, the report said.

Police have taken possession of Allauddin’s mobile phone and examined the details of the calls made to him. Investigators have reportedly traced the location of the caller to Bengaluru, although the identity of the person has not been established. Five separate teams led by an assistant commissioner of police and an inspector have been formed to investigate the case.

The investigation is also examining whether the incident was linked to personal hostility involving the building owner, Rehman, or his associates. Police have questioned Rehman and his friends as part of this line of inquiry. The motive has not been established, and the investigation remains under way.

Samples collected from the site have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. Police sources said the laboratory report is expected to help investigators determine the nature of the material used in the device and support the reconstruction of how the parcel reached the building.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV recordings from more than 100 locations to track movements connected with the incident. The footage review is intended to establish whether the parcel was delivered by a caller or physically brought and left at the construction site.

The account of how the parcel arrived remains unclear. Police sources said Allauddin gave inconsistent statements during questioning, at one point saying that an unidentified person had sent the parcel and at another saying that someone had brought and left a bag at the building. Suraj has not yet been able to provide a statement because he is still undergoing treatment. Police said his account would be recorded after he recovers.
