False Bomb Threat Delays IndiGo Delhi–Chennai Flight at IGI Airport

A false bomb threat delayed IndiGo flight 6E 6091 from Delhi to Chennai after a threatening message was found onboard shortly before take-off from Indira Gandhi International Airport, according to reports. The aircraft was taken back to the bay as a precaution and later completed its journey safely.

The flight was scheduled to depart from Delhi at 3.15 pm on Friday. While the aircraft was preparing for take-off, the crew received a threatening message warning it not to fly to Chennai. The message was reportedly found written inside a toilet located in the rear section of the aircraft.

Following standard operating procedures, the airline cancelled the immediate departure and returned the aircraft to the bay for security checks. The report attributed to India Today said the threat was investigated and subsequently found to be false.

After the checks were completed, the aircraft departed at around 5 pm, roughly two hours after its scheduled departure time. It landed safely in Chennai at approximately 7.40 pm.

The incident highlights the operational steps followed when a threat is reported on an aircraft before departure. The aircraft was not allowed to continue its take-off sequence after the message was discovered, and the crew and airline proceeded with the prescribed security process before the flight was cleared to operate.

The report did not provide details about the person responsible for writing the message or whether any police action had been initiated. It also did not specify the number of passengers affected by the delay.

The same report referred to a separate security alert at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport involving an aircraft travelling from Ahmedabad to Hyderabad. In that case, a 12-year-old student allegedly told a classmate during a school trip that there was a bomb on the aircraft. A crew member informed the pilot, and the aircraft was searched after landing under the applicable security protocol.

Officials said no suspicious object was found in the Hyderabad-bound aircraft. The student, who was in Class 7, was not booked because she was a minor. Police said teachers had counselled her and that she had made the statement without intending to issue a real threat.

The Delhi–Chennai flight resumed operations after the aircraft checks found no bomb threat, while the Hyderabad incident was also treated as a false alarm after the security inspection. No further operational action was reported in the supplied account.
