Karnataka Electoral Roll Revision Clears 43.82 Lakh Hearings

Karnataka has completed hearings on 43,82,824 notices issued to electors during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with the final list scheduled for publication on October 27, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office said on Friday.

The notices were issued to electors whose names were placed in the “no mapping” and “anomalies” categories during the revision exercise. The CEO’s office said all notices generated and delivered across the state had gone through the hearing process.

The exercise has also produced a substantial volume of applications from residents seeking enrolment, deletion, address changes or corrections in electoral records. Between June 16 and October 22, the office received 10,42,863 Form 6 applications, 4,840 Form 6A applications, 2,28,917 Form 7 applications and 13,10,841 Form 8 applications.

Together, the four categories accounted for 25,87,461 applications during the period. Form 6 is used to apply for inclusion of a name in the electoral roll, while Form 6A is intended for eligible overseas Indian voters. Form 7 is used to object to proposed inclusions or seek deletion of names, and Form 8 is used to request a change of residence or correction of an existing entry.

The office said all Form 7 applications received up to September 23 had been cleared on a priority basis. These applications are significant because they can affect whether a name remains on the roll or whether an objection to a proposed inclusion is accepted. The completion of hearings indicates that the objections received by the stated cut-off have moved through the designated review process.

The revision places a large administrative burden on electoral registration officials and on residents who must check whether their details have been correctly recorded. The figures released by the CEO’s office show that the process involves several distinct tasks: processing new enrolment requests, handling overseas voter applications, examining objections and deletions, and correcting existing entries or recording changes of residence.

The office reiterated that enrolment and correction of electoral entries are continuous processes. Applicants can submit Form 6, Form 6A, Form 7 or Form 8, as applicable, to the concerned Electoral Registration Officers through the ECINET app or the Election Commission’s voters.eci.gov.in portal. Applications can also be filed offline through Booth Level Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers or Electoral Registration Officers.

The final electoral roll for Karnataka is scheduled to be published on October 27 under the Special Intensive Revision-2026 timetable issued by the Election Commission of India. Until then, the CEO’s office will remain the state authority handling the applications and electoral-roll processes specified in the revision schedule.
