Amaha Secures ₹100 Crore Push to Expand Mental Healthcare Network

Amaha is set to close a ₹100 crore fundraise to expand its hospitals and clinics network across India, with the mental healthcare organisation planning to add about 1,000 beds, 30 hospitals and 60 clinics over the next five years.

The funding round has received backing from existing investors Lightbox Ventures and Fireside Ventures, along with London-based life skills platform Sandbox International Holdings Limited, Nithin Kamath through Rainmatter, and the family offices of Shreyas Shibulal, Ashish Bharat Ram and Adarsh Jalan, Amaha said in a note. The round also includes ₹10 crore in debt financing from Alteria Capital.

Amaha currently operates two hospitals with around 30 beds in Bengaluru and nine centres across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The organisation said the new capital would be used to build infrastructure, strengthen clinical teams and invest in technology for specialist mental healthcare delivery.

Its services span digital self-care, outpatient and inpatient treatment, and community support. The organisation provides care for conditions including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, addiction, schizophrenia and personality disorders.

Amit Malik, Amaha’s founder and chief executive officer, said the organisation emerged after efforts to develop mental health services within a larger multispecialty hospital system did not progress. In comments reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, Malik said the economics of hospital operations often place surgical specialties ahead of mental healthcare in priority.

Malik said the organisation began with his own funds and support from friends and family after about eight months of discussions. He also said a Western model of care was unlikely to work directly in India, where family involvement is more central to mental healthcare.

The expansion plan will increase Amaha’s physical care footprint while retaining its digital and community-based services. The proposed network is intended to make specialised mental healthcare more accessible to people living with mental illnesses, although the company has not provided a city-wise rollout schedule or detailed implementation timeline in the information available.

Amaha’s fundraise comes as private healthcare providers increasingly combine physical facilities, clinical teams and digital services. The company’s next stated steps are to deploy the capital towards infrastructure, clinical capacity and technology while working towards its five-year target of approximately 1,000 additional beds across the planned network.
