Gujarat Drug Seizure: ₹25.71 Crore Heroin, Mephadron Recovered

A joint operation by the Ahmedabad and Surat Crime Branches has led to the seizure of heroin and mephedrone valued at ₹25.71 crore and the arrest of three alleged drug suppliers travelling from Vadodara towards Ahmedabad on an expressway, according to Nav Gujarat Samay. A court has granted the police 10 days’ remand of the accused for further investigation.

The seized material included 4.531220 kilograms of heroin valued at ₹22,65,61,000 and 2.497870 kilograms of mephedrone valued at ₹2,99,74,440. Police also seized six mobile phones, a Mahindra XUV vehicle and a diary believed to contain details of drug purchases, sales, financial transactions and contacts.

The operation followed an investigation by Surat Crime Branch officials Bhavesh Rojia and Kiran Modi into a drug supply chain. The report said investigators received information that major suppliers connected with the network would travel towards Gujarat through the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Expressway. Teams were deployed at different points, and the suspected vehicle was stopped at a toll plaza after being followed.

According to the police account cited in the report, the occupants initially denied having any objectionable material. Investigators then allegedly found heroin and drugs concealed inside the vehicle’s seat, along with energy drinks and chocolates. The three arrested men were identified as Kafil Ahmed alias Javed Vakil Ahmed Ansari, 59, of Okhla in South Delhi; Tifle Naukhez Mohammad Yusuf Ibrahim, 44, also of Okhla; and Mohammad Imran alias Raja Mohammad Yunus Rehmani Alvi, 42, who is linked to South Delhi’s Okhla area and Madhavpuram in Meerut.

Police told the court that the accused had allegedly indicated links to suppliers in Afghanistan, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The report attributed to the investigation a claim that the heroin had been sourced through an individual named Rahmat Gul in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and moved through Pakistan before allegedly reaching Punjab by drone. These claims remain part of the investigation and have not been independently established in the supplied report.

The police also alleged that the mephedrone had been obtained from a person in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, and that the seized consignment was intended for an individual named Aslam in Rajkot. Investigators plan to examine these alleged links in Rajasthan, Rajkot, Delhi and other locations. Police are also checking whether additional consignments were hidden elsewhere or handed over to other people.

The court granted 10 days’ remand after the prosecution sought custody for tracing the supply chain, identifying buyers and suppliers, examining financial transactions and determining whether other states or foreign contacts were involved. The investigation is also examining possible links to narco-terrorism, hawala transactions and the conversion or transfer of drug proceeds through cryptocurrency, the report said.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot said the investigation would not be limited to the three arrested men or the seized consignment. Joint Commissioner of Police Sharad Singhal said investigators were examining whether proceeds from the drug trade were used for anti-national activities and whether money was routed through hawala or cryptocurrency. The police investigation and court proceedings are continuing.
