Western Railway has completed the construction of new platform cover sheds at seven railway stations in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar division, offering passengers protection from intense heat, direct sunlight and rain while waiting for trains.
The covered sheds have been completed at Kundli, Lathidad, Alampur, Wadhwan City, Songadh, Khodiyar Mandir and Ranpur stations, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad. The work is intended to strengthen basic passenger infrastructure at the stations and make waiting areas more usable during extreme weather.
The facilities have been added as part of Western Railway’s efforts to improve passenger amenities across the Bhavnagar division. With covered sections on the platforms, passengers will have greater shelter during Gujarat’s hot summer months and the monsoon season.
The work was completed under the guidance of the Divisional Railway Manager. The report said the project was carried out and completed quickly, although it did not disclose the project cost, the length of the sheds or the number of passengers expected to benefit at each station.
Atul Kumar Tripathi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, said the Bhavnagar division was giving priority to passenger needs under the direction of the Divisional Railway Manager. He said the division’s continuing efforts included station redevelopment, improvements to basic facilities and modernisation of passenger amenities.
The addition of platform shelters addresses a basic but important requirement at smaller railway stations, where passengers may otherwise have limited protection while waiting for trains. The seven stations are located within the Bhavnagar division and form part of the network covered by the division’s passenger-facility improvement work.
Tripathi said further passenger-friendly works would continue in the coming period to upgrade station premises and improve passenger satisfaction. The railway’s statement, as reported, did not provide a separate timeline or list of the next stations planned for similar work.
