Kolkata Airport Bomb Note Triggers Security Sweep, Flights Unaffected

A note claiming that a bomb had been placed near a specified gate at Kolkata airport triggered a security search on Friday, with airport police, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and a bomb squad deployed at the site. No suspicious object had been found when the report was published, and there was no reported impact on flight operations.

According to a report by Anandabazar – Kolkata, airport cleaning staff found the note near a women’s toilet in the morning. The message, written on a small piece of tissue paper, referred to a particular gate and stated that a bomb was there. The staff alerted the airport authorities, after which the entry point mentioned in the note was cleared as a precaution.

Police and the bomb squad then conducted a detailed search of the location. Searches were also being carried out in other parts of the airport. The report said that nothing suspicious had been detected so far, but security personnel continued to examine the area.

The airport police and CISF personnel were present at the scene. The security response came at a time when passenger traffic was reportedly higher than usual after the Durga Puja holiday period. The reported threat therefore prompted the authorities to secure the affected entrance while continuing checks across the airport premises.

Investigators were questioning the people who first saw the note and examining who had been near the toilet before and after it was discovered. They were also checking CCTV footage from the area to identify people who may have placed the message or had access to the location.

The incident follows another bomb scare at Kolkata airport on October 8, when an email allegedly warned airport authorities that explosives had been placed inside the airport and could detonate at any moment. The premises were cleared as far as possible and searched, but no bomb or explosive material was found, according to the report.

Following Friday’s incident, security arrangements across the airport were strengthened. The report did not indicate any disruption to flight services at the time of publication. The immediate official action remained focused on completing the searches, reviewing surveillance footage and tracing the origin of the note.
