Hyderabad Traffic Restrictions Tighten Around Hussain Sagar

Hyderabad traffic restrictions around Hussain Sagar will remain in force from 3 p.m. on October 21 until 6 a.m. on October 24 as the city manages Durga idol immersion processions at People’s Plaza, Garden Point and baby ponds near Jalavihar and Sanjeevaiah Park.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police said diversions would be imposed according to traffic conditions and the movement of idol processions, rather than through continuous closure of every identified road. Several routes connecting Khairatabad, the Secretariat, Tank Bund and Necklace Road will be regulated, with some stretches reserved for vehicles carrying Durga idols.

According to an advisory issued by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, vehicles travelling from Panjagutta and Raj Bhavan Road towards the Khairatabad flyover will be diverted at VV Statue towards Nirankari Junction. Only vehicles carrying Durga idols will be allowed to continue along the restricted route.

Traffic approaching Iqbal Minar from Nirankari Junction will be diverted at the Old Saifabad Police Station towards Ravindra Bharathi and Masab Tank. Vehicles travelling from Iqbal Minar towards Secretariat Junction will be redirected through the Telangana Talli Flyover towards Lower Tank Bund.

Traffic emerging from the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh lane and Mint Compound will not be allowed towards Necklace Rotary. These vehicles will be diverted at Printing Press Junction towards Mint Compound or Rajiv Gandhi Statue. Vehicles travelling from Upper Tank Bund towards Secretariat Junction will be diverted at the Old Ambedkar Statue towards Liberty, while traffic approaching Secretariat Junction from Liberty will be redirected towards Upper Tank Bund at the same junction.

The Old Ambedkar Statue, Secretariat Junction, NTR Marg and Necklace Road stretch will be accessible only to vehicles carrying Durga idols during the regulated movement. Traffic travelling from Upper Tank Bund towards Nallagutta Bridge and PV Marg, also known as Necklace Road, will be diverted at Sonabi Abdullah Masjid towards Minister Road via Karbala and Ranigunj.

Vehicles approaching Necklace Road from Ranigunj and Minister Road will be diverted at Nallagutta crossroads towards Minister Road or Ranigunj. The police have identified 11 junctions where congestion is expected: VV Statue, Old Saifabad Police Station, Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad Traffic Police Junction, AR Petrol Pump, BJR Statue Circle, Basheerbagh, Liberty, Old Ambedkar Statue, Upper Tank Bund and Nallagutta crossroads.

Motorists have been advised to avoid these locations between October 21 and the early hours of October 24, particularly during peak traffic periods, and to plan alternative routes. The traffic police said restrictions would be introduced on a need basis in response to procession movement and road conditions.
