Delhi Dussehra Traffic Advisory: Major Roads Face Evening Curbs

Delhi’s Dussehra traffic advisory will affect major roads in East, West and South Delhi, with diversions and restrictions planned on October 20 as large crowds, heavy vehicle movement and anticipated VIP travel are expected near celebration venues.

The Delhi Traffic Police said diversions in East Delhi will operate as required between 5 pm and 8 pm on NH-24, Road No. 57, Road No. 57A, Road No. 56 and Vikas Marg. Motorists have been asked to plan journeys in advance, allow extra travel time and use only designated parking spaces.

In Dwarka, traffic diversions and restrictions may be imposed from 4:50 pm to 8 pm. The police cited anticipated VIP movement and heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic linked to Dussehra celebrations. The affected routes include Urban Extension Road-II, Road No. 203, Road No. 224, Road No. 205, Road No. 226 and Dwarka Expressway.

The traffic police has advised commuters to avoid affected roads wherever possible, follow diversion signs and comply with instructions from personnel deployed in the area. It has also asked motorists to remain patient and refrain from roadside or unauthorised parking.

Additional restrictions are in place in and around Chittaranjan Park and Greater Kailash-II for Durga Puja celebrations being held from October 16 to 20. These restrictions will apply daily from 4 pm to midnight. The affected network includes the Outer Ring Road stretch between Vasant Vihar and Modi Mill Flyover, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg near C R Park and August Kranti Marg between Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.

Traffic movement may also be affected on M B Road between Khanpur and Jamia Hamdard, Guru Ravidas Marg between the DDA Flats in Kalkaji and Jamia Hamdard, and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg between Khanpur and Chirag Delhi Flyover. Josip Broz Tito Marg between Chirag Delhi Flyover and Moolchand Flyover, as well as internal roads in C R Park and Greater Kailash-II, are also covered by the advisory.

The Delhi Traffic Police has recommended using the Delhi Metro for travel to the affected Durga Puja areas. It has deployed personnel at key junctions near major Ramlila venues, including Hanuman Mandir and Delhi Gate, where large crowds are expected. According to a police official quoted in the report, special traffic arrangements have been in place in the Central Range for the past 10 days, since the Ramlila events began.

The official said additional personnel were being deployed near the venues because of the larger turnout expected on Dussehra and anticipated VIP movement. Their responsibilities include managing traffic, guiding visitors and maintaining movement around the celebration areas.

For real-time updates and assistance, commuters can contact the Delhi Traffic Police through its social media channels, WhatsApp number 8750871493 or helpline numbers 1095 and 011-25844444. The restrictions are scheduled around the event timings and will remain subject to traffic conditions and police directions on the ground.
