Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has urged Union Minister G Kishan Reddy to accelerate decisions on coal, fertiliser, airport, education and railway projects during a meeting focused on development priorities in the state.
Tummala sought the allocation of Mahanadi coal to the Yadadri thermal power plant, a request previously made by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The minister also asked the Centre to find a permanent solution to operational problems at Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (RFCL), with the stated aim of ensuring uninterrupted urea supplies to farmers in Telangana.
The demands were submitted through representations during Tummala’s meeting with Kishan Reddy. The report does not indicate that the Centre has accepted the requests or issued approvals. The meeting instead places several pending development matters before the Union government for intervention and faster action.
Among the proposals, Tummala requested ₹100 crore from Coal India’s corporate social responsibility funds for the proposed University of Earth Sciences at Kothagudem. He also urged the Centre to allocate the Sattupalli Block-III coal block to the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), the state-linked coal mining company.
The minister further sought the acceleration of plans for a greenfield airport in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. The request adds an aviation project to a broader set of coal and industrial infrastructure demands linked to the district and surrounding areas. The source report does not provide a construction schedule, site details or estimated cost for the airport.
Railway connectivity was another focus of the representations. Tummala asked for faster clearances for railway projects in Telangana and urged the Centre to give priority to the Sattupalli-Kovvuru and Penuballi-Kondapalli railway lines. He also called for the early completion of the Pandurangapuram-Malkangiri railway line up to Sarapaka.
The requests cover infrastructure managed or influenced by multiple institutions, including the Union government, Coal India, SCCL, the railways and the fertiliser sector. Their progress will therefore depend on clearances, allocations and coordination across agencies, although the report does not specify the current status of each project.
Tummala asked Kishan Reddy to extend the necessary support and expedite the proposals, describing them as crucial to Telangana’s development. The next steps will depend on the Centre’s response to the representations and on decisions concerning coal allocation, RFCL’s operational issues, project clearances and railway priorities.
