Airport Announcements in Kannada A Cultural Push

The Kannada Sahitya Parishad has made a significant appeal to the Bengaluru International Airport Limited to embrace the state’s language and culture. The organization has requested various initiatives, including flight announcements in Kannada and cultural installations, to promote Karnataka’s heritage on a global scale.

The Kannada Sahitya Parishad (KSP) has taken a significant step towards promoting the state’s language and culture, urging the Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) to incorporate Kannada into its operations. In a meeting with BIAL’s Managing Director, the KSP, along with the Kannada Development Authority (KDA), proposed several initiatives aimed at highlighting the rich heritage of Karnataka.

One of the key requests made by the organizations was to introduce Kannada announcements on every flight landing or taking off from Bengaluru. While BIAL expressed support for the idea, they emphasized the need for approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The KSP has since pledged to write to the ministry to make its case. Additionally, the organizations proposed including Kannada in in-flight announcements, though the final decision on this matter will rest with the airline operators.

To further enhance the airport’s cultural appeal, the KSP and KDA suggested the installation of Kannada book stalls and cultural installations, such as caricatures and statues representing the state’s heritage. While BIAL expressed openness to increasing the number of statues, they raised concerns about the viability of book stalls due to a perceived lack of demand.
