Heavy vehicles and private and government buses will be barred from several roads in Kalyan from 11 to 20 October during the Navratri and Dussehra fair at Durgadi Fort, with restrictions in force daily from 4 pm to midnight.
The special traffic control notification has been issued to manage the large crowds expected at the festival and protect visitors travelling to the temple at Durgadi Fort in Kalyan West, Thane district. The restrictions cover six-wheel vehicles, heavy vehicles, multi-axle vehicles and private and government buses.
The notification was issued by Pankaj Shirsat, deputy commissioner of police in the Thane city traffic department. Heavy vehicle entry will be stopped at several points, including Kalyan Naka, Khoni Nisarg Dhaba, Nevali Naka, Shriram Chowk, Aadharwadi Chowk, Ranjnoli Naka and Savad Naka.
Traffic police have directed vehicles approaching from Kalyan Naka to use the Mumbra bypass, Kharegaon toll plaza and Mumbai-Nashik Highway. Vehicles coming from Khoni Nisarg Dhaba can proceed via Kalyan Phata, the Badlapur-Ambernath route and Katai-Badlapur Chowk.
Vehicles arriving from Nevali Naka will have to use the Badlapur-Ambernath Highway. Heavy vehicles approaching from Shriram Chowk will be diverted through Ulhasnagar, Shahad and Ambernath. Vehicles travelling from Aadharwadi Chowk towards Bhiwandi will be routed through Gandhari Bridge, Bapgaon and Sonale.
The traffic department has advised vehicles from Ranjnoli Naka to use the Kharegaon toll plaza route, while those approaching from Savad Naka can use the Sonale route. The restrictions will not apply to police vehicles, fire engines, ambulances and other essential-service vehicles.
The Durgadi Fort temple attracts devotees during the Navratri-to-Dussehra festival period, and the traffic measures are intended to keep movement orderly around the crowded festival area. Police have asked drivers to follow the designated diversions, comply with traffic rules and cooperate with the administration during the restriction period.
