Land acquisition for the 161.5-km northern section of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road has been completed, Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said on Friday, clearing the main obstacle that had led to the cancellation of two earlier tender rounds. Fresh tenders are expected to be invited soon for the proposed section, which is awaiting final clearances from the Centre.
The northern section will connect Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagdevpur, Bhongir and Choutuppal. According to the minister, the detailed project report is nearing completion and the state government aims to complete the tendering process within two months, subject to the remaining approvals.
The project forms part of the wider Hyderabad Regional Ring Road network and is estimated to cost Rs 12,073 crore. The minister said he had requested Union Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite financial clearances and Union Cabinet approval for the northern section.
The completion of land acquisition addresses the specific issue that had delayed the earlier procurement process. The minister said two previous rounds of tenders were cancelled because the required land acquisition had not been completed. The next tender process will therefore depend on the final project clearances and the completion of the DPR.
The proposed road is intended to create a high-capacity connection across settlements and growth areas north of Hyderabad. Its route includes locations such as Sangareddy, Toopran, Bhongir and Choutuppal, linking areas that are outside the city’s existing built-up core. The supplied report does not specify the precise land area acquired, the number of affected parcels or the compensation paid to landowners.
Venkat Reddy also sought equal priority for the southern stretch of the Regional Ring Road, describing it as important for the development of Bharat Future City, industrial parks and radial roads. The report does not provide a construction schedule or tender timeline for the southern section.
Separately, the minister said Telangana had secured approval for expanding National Highway-65 along the Hyderabad–Vijayawada–Machilipatnam corridor into a six-lane highway with two additional service lanes. The project has cleared the technical committee stage and is awaiting Union Cabinet approval, he said.
The highway expansion is expected to cover the corridor connecting Hyderabad with Vijayawada and Machilipatnam. However, the supplied information does not state the project’s construction cost, length, land requirement or implementation agency.
The minister also urged the Centre to expedite clearances for a proposed 52-km elevated corridor between Mannanur and Srisailam along NH-765 through the Nallamala forest. The DPR for that project has been prepared at an estimated cost of Rs 7,600 crore. Venkat Reddy said the corridor would improve access for pilgrims visiting Srisailam while reducing ecological damage to the tiger reserve.
For the RRR North section, the next official milestones are final central clearances, completion of the DPR, issuance of fresh tenders and the start of work after approvals are obtained.
